Resurrecting Your Purpose: A Personal Tale of Growth, Faith, and Finances
Hey guys, Ryan DeMent from Chasing Financial Freedom. I hope you guys are having a great day. So today I am on Zoom, which is not the regular platform that I record on, and I have had a cluster bleep for the last several days trying to record. This episode, which is just me, I had to guess, but I had to reschedule her because my video card went wrong on my camera.
Then I put a streaming card in. The streaming card went bad, and now I'm waiting for it to be delivered. So guys, it's just me today and it's not gonna be very long. It is going to be. Just telling you what's been going on with myself, but also some words of wisdom that I have for myself, but maybe you guys can learn from and help me out.
But, last Sunday, this is being recorded on a Tuesday. Last Sunday was Easter. Whether you're religious, spiritual, whatever, God is resurrected on Sunday. And there's a lot of things that go along with that. But this journey that I've been on, To find my financial purpose and my, my place on this earth has been a long journey, and one of the things that I'm finding along the way is the ability to be persistent and present is something I've struggled with for a very long time, and it just doesn't.
Play into what I'm trying to accomplish. If I am worried about the future and I'm thinking about other things. And something along the way that happened was I had a guest, Daniel on my Chasing Happiness podcast, and he has this app, excuse me, he was on Chasing Financial Freedom. On this podcast, he has an app called God Walk and it allows you to.
Every morning I go out, I go on a walk, and it has some things that you need to talk about and be open and honest with yourself. And since I started being even more blunt about where I'm at in life and what's going on, I seem to have a better picture of what my financial purpose is and what I want to do in life.
And it seems like I've come closer to understanding who I am. And where I want to go. And whether you're religious, spiritual, whatever, until you truly chase after your passions and understand what you're trying to do, it's very hard to say that you've made it. You can be somebody that has millions of dollars or billions of dollars, but you have nothing that truly satisfies you on the inside.
And that's where I've been is I've been on this journey of. Of trying to find my financial purpose, but also find my true passions. And there's many of them. There's several of them that I'm going after. But until you start putting the effort into that process, nothing changes. It we truly struggle with who we are and where we want to be.
It's, it's an old adage that, the middle class is, you know where you want to be, but if you think about it, if you're making 60 or $70,000 a year, you're probably paying 10 to $15,000 in taxes, which leaves you 30 to $40,000 to live on. That's pretty damn tight. What about if you were able to find your financial purpose, your and your passions, and be able to go after what makes you.
And understand exactly what your calling is. That's where I'm at, is I'm starting to get footing in that space in my life, and the only way I know how to do that is to continue moving forward with everything that I have to do on a daily basis. But in the end, it comes down to, How persistent and consistent can I be, but also brutally honest with myself, and I know that's an old adage.
It's something we all talk about. But at the end of the day, where are we at with ourselves? A lot of us go through life just doing our thing and just, okay, I'm gonna go retire now. And you really never got fulfilled in life and then you die. What's life if you can't actually go after it? And.
Truly understand what your financial purpose your calling is, and to be able to find it, feel fulfilled when giving more than receiving, and then being able to show others where you've been and help those others get out of those financial places. Or maybe they're in a rut in life and you can help.
That's one of the biggest rewards you can have in life. And for me that's huge. That is huge. I got into this journey of financial purpose for the simple fact of, I enjoy building houses for long-term renters that don't think they could buy a home. Private lending. So individuals that can't. Can't quite qualify for a mortgage, but we can get 'em a private mortgage and then get them set up on their credit and get them squared away and they can refinance after, five or 10 years.
Or maybe they don't, those are big passions. And then looking at businesses that are strong, that have been around for 15 or 20 years that are boring. Those are, that's another one of my passions. And then side hustle. Side hustling with whatever. I help my parents with their businesses and I'm helping some other people with their businesses.
Those are the things that make, that create excitement for me, but also creates fulfillment. And it feels like I've got purpose and passion and I'm telling you guys this and it's just gonna be a very short, a short episode this week. We have to find a way in ourselves to say, enough is enough for being average.
Look up the definition of average or middle. Do you want to be defined as average or middle? Why can't you be excellent or exceed or push yourself out of the middle and say, I want to. More than just do status quo and we seem to just wanna be status quo on a daily basis, and I don't get that. And that's the long I fell in the same trap guys, for the longest time I'm in that trap and now I'm trying to fight out of it.
And surrounding yourself with people at your table that truly care about you professionally and personally is a huge win. And I've struggled with that for quite amount of time. I'm just starting to get some people around me that are going to help me out in that aspect, and they will help me claw out.
They'll show me what they did to be successful, to live their financial purpose and how they're impacting other people in their lives. But the biggest thing is that they're there through thick and thin. And don't get me, don't get me wrong, some of these people at my table will change. They're not gonna stay there forever.
That's the other thing guys, change. You've gotta be open to change. And if you're not open to change, how are you going to be able to get yourself out of the middle class, out of being average? When do you say, I'm sick and tired of being afraid of change and taking it head? That's just where I was at and I was sick and tired of being average.
And it's a shift in mindset. And that mindset is a struggle on a daily basis, a struggle for me because I get comfortable and then I have to push myself. And one of the things that I do on a daily basis in the morning is I have quiet time to where. I read and I write down my goals for the day that I want to achieve, and one of the books I'm reading right now is 10 X by Grant Cardone.
And his mindset and the effort that you have to put in doesn't cost you anything other than time, which is our most valuable asset. People think you have to have money to compete well. If you put the extra effort in to what you're trying to do, the money will. Which will allow you to be able to then take your 10 x efforts to a whole nother level, maybe go 20 or 30 times.
But in the end, guys, if you're not hungry enough to change and want to be more than average, nothing happens. And I struggled with that just like you guys did. I'm still struggling with it, but I'm telling you, I've at least come to grips that I don't want to be average. I don't want to be just some average Joe.
I want to make an impact in the world through my passions, and the only way I know to do that is to change my mindset. Shift where I'm at on a daily basis to where I'm focused on what's happening in my life, staying present. 10 xing my efforts and making sure that I'm doing what needs to be done to get out of being average.
That's it for this week, guys. It was just a quick message. I will be back next week with a guest. I hope you guys have a good one. I'll be talking to you.
